In the 16th century, the Dutch painter Pieter Bruegel represented more than 100 Netherlandish proverbs in his paintings.
"A strange and funny day and week". In this work, based on Bruegel's paintings, a total of seven proverbs are represented in short stories for each day of the week, from Monday to Sunday, based on the proverbs depicted in the paintings.
Wednesday's proverb is, "A sow pulls the plug on a barrel."
Its meaning is one that has terrible consequences if ignored.
16世紀、100以上ものネーデルランドのことわざを、絵画によって表したオランダの画家、ピーテル・ブリューゲル。ブリューゲルの絵画は、世界は罪深く、邪悪で、愚かしいものであるという当時の彼の世界観を反映しており、こうした主題は当時の文学にも反映されたといわれています。
奇妙でおかしな一日そして一週間。この作品では、絵画に描かれたことわざを、月曜日から日曜日まで一週間分、合計七つの小編を、それぞれの曜日の物語としています。
水曜日のことわざは、「雌豚が樽の栓を抜く」
その意味は、無視していると恐ろしい結果になるもの。
