In the 16th century, the Dutch painter Pieter Bruegel represented more than 100 Netherlandish proverbs in his paintings.
"A strange and funny day and week". In this work, based on Bruegel's paintings, a total of seven proverbs are represented in short stories for each day of the week, from Monday to Sunday, based on the proverbs depicted in the paintings.
Tuesday is, "Even the Devil ties you to your pillow."
Meaning, stubbornness conquers all.
16世紀、100以上ものネーデルランドのことわざを、絵画によって表したオランダの画家、ピーテル・ブリューゲル。ブリューゲルの絵画は、世界は罪深く、邪悪で、愚かしいものであるという当時の彼の世界観を反映しており、こうした主題は当時の文学にも反映されたといわれています。
奇妙でおかしな一日そして一週間。この作品では、絵画に描かれたことわざを、月曜日から日曜日まで一週間分、合計七つの小編を、それぞれの曜日の物語としています。
火曜日の諺は、「悪魔でさえ枕に縛りつける」
その意味は、頑固さは何をも克服する。
